2009 (with apologies to Prince)

With the Last Days of the Bush Regime upon us, I’d like to share this with y’all…

2009
(with apologies to Prince)

I was beaming when I wrote this forgive me if it seems too bent
But I been dreaming ‘bout the morning when Bush is not the president
The skies’ll shine much bluer over people smiling everywhere
Gettin’ organized for action, breathin’ in some cleaner air

When the Bush Regime is over, all his cronies will be out of time
So today I’m gonna party like it’s two thousand and nine

Started smiling as I wrote this, the Bush Regime will soon be past
‘Cause when you live for power, your power will never last
The war machine surrounds us, still battles that we have to fight
It’s dark before the dawn, but soon we’re gonna see the light

When the Bush Regime is over, all his cronies will be serving time
So today I’m gonna party like it’s two thousand and nine

Let me tell ya somethin’

If you’re sick of the old politics, the future is right through the door
Get your hands out of your pockets, find your voice and get ready to roar
The people with the bombs think they must have their way
But we won’t let that happen, we will show them they have had their day

When the Bush Regime is over, the beginning of a better time
So today I’m gonna party like it’s two thousand and nine
Two thousand and nine
Two thousand and nine
(etc ad lib)

  1. It is good not to become so emotionally invested in the govt and what the govt does. Granted, it may be of interest to consider public policy questions but the govt has and will have many failings under any titular leader. Politics, meanwhile, is what it is. What’s new is old. Audacity? It is that of those who suppose that doing the same thing over again will give a different result. But most of the electorate was just mad as hell that their 401k’s turned into 201k’s.
