economic inequality

I do not have a problem with economic inequality per se. Some people are willing to work harder than I am, or do things that are more important to society than what I do, and they ought to be paid more. But I do believe that there are limits to the degree of economic inequality that a society can tolerate and still call itself “just” – or for that matter, “civilized.” And the real problem arises when wealth becomes conflated with power – for then the wealthy can adjust the system to increase their wealth at will, at the expense of the overall balance of society. (Imagine if a sports superstar took his wealth and used it to buy a position of power in the league in which he played – and then changed the rules so that his team always won.)
