for some death is a waterfall (poem)

for some, death is a waterfall
roaring rapids, chaotic noise,
events cascading one atop another
before the final plunge

for some, death is a desert
a dry unending expanse, relentless and empty
where movement slows
until it simply stops

for some, death is a light switch
now on
now off

for some, death is an afternoon nap
after a hard morning’s work in the garden
a cup of tea, an open book
on the table next to the couch
the birds outside the window
the cat asleep on one’s chest

for some, death is the walls closing in
for some, death is the roof being torn away

for some, death is a clear open sky
that just

keeps

opening
